A big book with pretty much all the answers, Windows 98 Unleashed: Professional Reference Edition ranks with the best of the comprehensive Windows 98 books. You'll find that this book's combination of step-by-step guides and deep explanations makes it both practical and enjoyable.

Covering every user-level Windows 98 topic, the book guides you through installation, use, modification, and maintenance of the operating system. If you know the basics of getting around in Windows (clicking, manipulating windows, and so on), this hardback book represents a fine choice for your computing library.

After explaining how to install Windows 98, McFedries gives a tour of what's new in this version. He then goes on to document the operating system piece by piece: interface customization, Device Manager, hardware, the Registry, printing, networking, and dozens of other subjects get in-depth chapters. McFedries' coverage of the Registry stands out: he explains Registry hacking well and with depth. He also describes TweakUI, a powerful but little-known interface customization tool.
