MCSE Training Guide: Windows NT Workstation 4 by Dennis Maione follows carefully the structure of the 70-073 Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE) examination. It includes all of the information necessary to pass this operating system test and a lengthy section of review to polish your knowledge before you take the exam.

The exam-preparation section includes seven key chapters. The first is entitled "Planning" and discusses installation strategies; NT file system (NTFS), High Performance File System (HPFS), and file allocation table (FAT) file systems; and dual-boot scenarios. Next, Maione discusses installation and configuration in depth, with information on driver configuration, upgrades, and un- installation. Then he includes a critical chapter on managing resources, dealing with users, profiles, sharing permissions, and printer configuration.

The fourth chapter--titled "Connectivity"--addresses protocols, network-resource naming, configuration with NetWare networks, dial-up networking, and Web-server installation. The fifth chapter discusses application execution within the NT operating system, and the sixth the tools and techniques you need to monitor and optimize your NT configuration. The "Troubleshooting" chapter instructs you in dealing with boot, print job, installation, and application failures, as well as how to modify the System Registry.

Following this basic instruction there are several brief chapters of quick review and "fast facts" that will help you focus on the most key topics.
