This book provides fine user-level documentation of GroupWise 5, Novell's proprietary workgroup collaboration solution. Because GroupWise has all the quirks of any complicated piece of network software, this documentation is necessary to keep users off the backs of administrators.

Rogers and McTague begin by orienting users in the GroupWise environment, explaining the purpose of each region of the program's window and cataloging the fundamentals of navigation. The book then moves on to explain the specific procedures involved in tasks such as sending e-mail messages, creating address-book entries, and making personal and group schedules. Readers learn how to set up mail filters and how to sort messages into various storage folders.

The authors give plenty of attention--deservedly--to GroupWise's Document Management System (DMS). Readers learn all they need to know about DMS, including the step-by-step procedures required to post and download documents. The book's concluding chapters address customization and the mechanics of using GroupWise remotely.

This is not an administrator's book, and so it contains nothing at all about what happens on the server side. Still, this book excels as a user-level tutorial and reference.

Book Description
What do you get when you combine Novell's GroupWise 5 electronic messaging system with Microsoft's Windows 95? Productivity. Combine both of these with Novell's GroupWise 5 User's Handbook and you'll achieve greater productivity sooner. In this concise and thorough reference, GroupWise experts Shawn Rogers and Rick McTague introduce you to the newest version of the software and then tell you what you need to know to send and receive messages and file attachments; get the most from the GroupWise Address Book, including using it as a personal contact manager; organize the daily deluge of messages you receive -- and even retract a message you've sent; administer and access GroupWise's powerful Calendar feature to keep yourself and others on track; manage documents with GroupWise's integrated Document Management Services technology; and connect remotely from home or while traveling. A senior Instructional Designer at Novell Education, Shawn Rogers has been involved in the design and development of all the GroupWise courses taught at Novell Authorized Education Centers. Rick McTague is a Messaging Systems Specialist who trains and consults as well as designs GroupWise messaging networks. The two are co-authors of Novell's GroupWise 4 User's Guide, and McTague served as technical editor for Rogers' Novell's GroupWise 4 Administrator's Guide.
