As the communications technology field has exploded, so has the terminology. Fortunately, Gilbert Held has put every definition you might need to know into this exceptionally useful volume--standard terms, abbreviations, trade names, codes, and more. This book goes beyond merely defining words and phrases to provide detailed tables and charts where appropriate. For example, after defining Data Network Information Code, Held explains what each digit of the code stands for and then provides a complete list of codes identifying countries from Australia to the USA. Similarly, the entry for Peak to Average Ratio Test includes an illustration of a chart showing sample test results. There are nearly 400 such tables and illustrations that expand simple definitions into more comprehensive explanations. Listings are arranged in strict alphabetical order with the digits 0 through 9 treated as if they follow the letter Z in the alphabet, making terms with numeric components easy to find.
