Like any good introductory book, Instant VRML Worlds does not dwell on details but instead moves the reader through a series of examples. The examples are "ready-to-use ... easily customizable" objects and worlds contained on the companion CD-ROM, which also includes the necessary Windows software for browsing and basic authoring of VRML worlds. Designed to appeal to the beginner and to capitalize on the novelty of the format, the examples provide instant 3-D gratification while demystifying the fundamentals of working in the VRML environment. Instant VRML Worlds is not a book for an advanced user or an ambitious beginner. Instead, it is a valuable guide for the casual user--filling a niche that is often disregarded in the documentation of evolving technologies. With Instant VRML Worlds, you don't need access to or knowledge of expensive 3-D packages or development tools to begin exploring and customizing your own 3-D cyberspace.
