As one of the designers of a statewide program in 1994 to get pre-college educators online, I appreciate the many challenges to deploying the Internet in schools. Williams has written a book that I'd heartily recommend to the latest crop of educators getting online. Like all books in the IDG series, it is clearly laid out, filled with truly useful tips and hints, and addresses the particular needs of its intended audience very well. The section on how to incorporate the Internet into the curriculum is especially valuable. Highly Recommended! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description
Nowhere does the Internet offer possibilities more exciting than in the field of education. In The Internet For Teachers, 2nd Edition, technology evangelist and former middle school teacher Bard Williams shows you how to tap the Internet1s amazing potential. Beginning at the beginning, he presents a primer on what the Internet is, how it came to be, and where it1s heading. Williams demystifies modems (devices that enable computers to communicate over telephone lines) and lays out your options for obtaining Internet access, from signing up with a major online service like America Online to connecting directly through a local Internet Service Provider (ISP). Once online, software included on the book1s accompanying CD-ROM helps make using the Internet easy. You discover how to use e-mail, online chats, and "netcasts" to connect with other educators around the world, as well as how to integrate the Internet into traditional areas of study. With The Internet For Teachers, 2nd Edition, your students, too, can participate in exciting science projects such as Maya Explorer, interacting over the Internet with actual explorers as they bicycle to ancient Mayan ruins, and can go online to research subjects as easily as they now go to the public library.
